Places of Interest

Just off the main High Street is John Port School.  It is the largest Secondary school in Derbyshire. The main bus shelter on the Village Green in front of the school is constructed of stone from the old Etwall hall.  The Villager bus services V1 and V2 (see timetable)  provides easy travel to Derby or Burton.

Behind John Port School is the Etwall Leisure Centre which has public swimming pool, tennis and squash courts.

Etwall Primary School  is at the top of Egginton Road just by the King George V Playing Field.  On this playing field there is a well equipped children's play area and a football pitch. The Frank Wickham Hall (Community Centre) and Library are situated on its boundaries as is the Etwall Bowls Club. There is a second football pitch situated on the Sandypits Lane playing field.  To book either football pitch please contact Yvette Davies on 01283 346139.

Etwall has two churches serving the Anglican and Methodist communities.  St Helen's Church is situated prominently on Church Hill, just beyond the village green and the Methodist Church is a few yards past the post office on Willington Road.  In addition, a Roman Catholic church is situated in the neighbouring village of Mickleover.Click to enlarge

The famous Almshouses by St Helen's lie behind a pair of ornamental iron gates which originally belonged to the old Etwall Hall.

Just behind the almshouses is the Etwall Cricket Club where you can watch the village teams play most weekends during the summer or enjoy the facilities of their clubhouse.

Hansons Auctioneer’s can be found on Heage Lane (by the Seven Wells pub)
