The village shops within Etwall have changed quite significantly since 1999. The original news agents on Main Street, which changed to a local Londis has now become a One Stop shop, offering a much wider variety of goods, including fresh sandwiches etc.
The Post Office continues as Tea Room and Sandwich Bar and Halo Hair Design still occupies a prominent location on Main Street, the Spread Eagle has seen some development take place, reducing its rear car park area.
The numerous businesses within the village, together with Neighbourhood Watch, have, between them, supported the Parish Council in the provision of a village Defibrillator, and the owners of the Spread Eagle have generously allowed it to be affixed to their property.
As well as the above, there are two other areas within a few minutes walk of the central village area where shops can also be found. On Springfield Road there is an Indian (Balti) takeaway together with a “Total Tanning” experience, and on Chestnut Grove the Chemists and a local supermarket, Etwall Stores is now joined by a Uni-sex Hairdressing Salon, replacing the flower shop.
Unfortunately, due to changes decided by South Derbyshire District Council their recycling facilities, at the George V playing field, behind the shops at Chestnut Grove and those at John Port School, are no longer operative.
The remaining recycling facilities within the village are
A Clothing Bank, to support Etwall Primary School, in the Car park of the King George Playing Field
A Charity Clothing and Shoe collection point outside the Village store on Chestnut Grove
A Charity Clothing and Shoe collection point for Salvation Army outside the One Stop shop on Main Street
